Kompang
The picture depicts a tourist trying out her skills at a local drum with a group of local musicians during a wedding event.
The kompang is a shallow frame drum with a goat or cow hide skin nailed to the wooden frame by metal nails. It is usually found in large kompang ensembles throughout Malaysia, playing interlocking rhythmic patterns for processions, to accompany the choral singing of zikir and to perform music for various social occasions.
